SPOR Patient Engagement Platform helps public make a difference in health research

Have you heard about the SPOR Patient Engagement (PE) Platform? They help connect patients and the public with researchers. The PE Platform promotes, supports, and evaluates patient engagement in health research and will help you get meaningfully involved in health research in Alberta.

The Patient/Family Registry application asks you some questions about which health research areas interest you and how you want to be involved. You’ll then be added to an email list and receive updates from the PE Platform team about training and events for patients. You can also view current research project opportunities and decide what you’d like to get involved with.

There are generally two roles for patients in research. As a participant or subject, you enrol in a project and researchers collect data from you. As a patient partner and collaborator, researchers work with you to co-develop or get your expertise on research work. You can choose to be involved in whatever role or research opportunities appeal to you. No research project looks exactly the same, and they all have different time and work commitments.

How can I participate?

Signing up on the Patient/Family Registry doesn’t obligate you to participate in research, so your involvement can be as low-commitment as you want it to be.

Connecting with the PE Platform is simple. Contact Robyn Laczy at 780-492-9695 or rlaczy@athabascau.ca, or join the Patient/Family Registry. Sign-up takes less than 10 minutes and is a great first step into patient engagement in research.
